PTA MEETING/ELECTION

Dear PTA Member,

I hope everyone is well and staying cool in the heat!

I want to remind everyone that this year is an election year.  Our nominating committee carefully went through all nominated candidates and chose a slate of candidates that they thought were best suited for the different positions on the PTA.  The nominating committee nominated Angela Santiago for President, Karin Vanoppen for Vice President, Carolina deBrigard for Treasurer, Anna Lopez for Recording Secretary, and Marisela Turicelos for Corresponding Secretary.  Candidates that were not chosen by the committee were able to submit their intention to run from the floor.  Brigid D'Souza has chosen to run from the floor for the position of Vice President.

Tomorrow evening June 13, 2017 at 6:00 pm please join us in the Mary Ann Wallace Theatre for the election of our new Vice President and confirmation of the other PTA officers.  Our 2nd through 5th grade Enrichment Students will be presenting their projects and there will also be a special performance by Nimbus.

I hope to see you all tomorrow.

Lauren

Candidate blurbs:

My name is Karin Vanoppen. My husband Sekhar and I live in the PS3 neighborhood. Our son Neel has been in the school since Pre-K3; next year he will go to 3rd grade.

We have been involved in the PS3 PTA even before the day he walked in the school because I sat on the Project Play Committee (we sold t-shirts etc to collect money that ended up going to the bike rack and the Pre-K playground equipment.)

Apart from being a class parent, I consider volunteering at the PTA events - as the Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, the Sport Clinics and Field Day -  a way to help out the teachers and have fun with the students. It is also the best way to get to know parents outside the ones in my son's class.

I was honored to see my nomination for VP being accepted by the election committee members.
